A letter from the founder
What I looked for was a handbag that fits into ordinary life, with style and practicality working together.
An everyday favourite, made to go with you.
Most of us have a handbag in the wardrobe that we bought with real enthusiasm. It looked right in the shop, we carried it a handful of times, and then it settled quietly on a shelf.
There was usually nothing wrong with it. It was a little too dressy for an ordinary Tuesday, or it only suited one outfit, or it needed the whole day planned around it.
The handbag that becomes a favourite is different. It's the one you actually use, picked up on a normal morning without a second thought. You wear it with jeans and a linen shirt, take it to lunch with a friend, carry it along the main street on the way to the shops. It simply fits into the day.
I'm Olivia, and when I choose handbags for Daily Aussie, I try to think past the product photograph. A bag can look lovely on a white background and still never leave the house. I look for something you'll genuinely enjoy using.
That's why Harper caught my eye. It has a classic look, a compact shape and a few sensible ways to carry it, which suits the everyday handbag I like to offer.
There were six things I looked for. The first is how it goes with the clothes you already wear.
Lovely with the clothes you already wear.
A handbag earns its place by going with what you already own. For most of us that means jeans and a comfortable blouse, a linen shirt with casual trousers, or an easy dress on a warm afternoon.
Harper's cognac brown is a warm, classic colour, the sort that sits quietly beside blue denim, soft neutrals and natural fabrics instead of competing with them. It doesn't ask for a particular outfit, and it doesn't look out of place at a café table or on a walk through the shops.
I wouldn't say any bag goes with absolutely everything. But a timeless shape in a warm tone is easier to wear week after week than something trendy, or made for one kind of occasion. Nothing else in your wardrobe has to change for it.
Then there's the question of how it feels to carry, which is what turns a nice idea into a favourite.

Worn over the shoulder on an ordinary outing.
A handbag can look lovely and still be a nuisance to carry. If it's awkward, it tends to stay at home, however pretty it is.
Harper has an adjustable strap, so you decide how it sits. Over the shoulder when you're wandering along the main street. Across your body when you'd like both hands free, for a coffee, a shopping bag or a grandchild's hand.
It's a compact shape, sized for ordinary outings rather than a whole day's luggage, and the soft faux leather moves with you rather than standing stiffly.
That's the relationship between style and usability that I care about. The bag that looks right and carries easily is the one that goes out with you on Monday, and again on Thursday.

Up close: the material, the stitching and the texture.
The first thing I notice about a handbag is how it feels when I pick it up. Some look soft in the photos and feel hard and plasticky in your hands, and that's a fair worry when you're buying online.
Harper has the soft, flexible feel I always look for. It gives a little when you hold it and moves with you, rather than standing stiffly like a box. It's faux leather, and it doesn't need to be heavy genuine leather to feel lovely in your hands. Open it, slide your hand in, tuck it under your arm: it's a pleasant bag to handle.
That softness suits the way Harper is built to be used. A bag you enjoy handling is the one you reach for every day, whether you're opening a pocket at the café or lifting it onto your shoulder. The close-up shows the texture and stitching as they are.

A close look at the zips.
A zip is a small thing until you use it eight times a day. At the café table you want your card or your keys without lifting the whole bag onto your lap. In the car park you want your phone in one move. A bag that makes you work for the small things soon becomes one you stop reaching for.
Harper has zipped compartments and open slip pockets, so the things you use most are not all behind one zip. You open the one you need. That is what I mean by easy access: finding the thing, not wrestling with the bag.
The close-up shows the zips as they are. Give them a go when your Harper arrives, and if anything is not right, our 30-day returns are there for you.

What fits inside, laid out so you can see for yourself.
The question that matters most when you buy a bag online is: will my things actually fit? A bag can look generous in the photos and turn out to hold a phone and not much else.
Harper aims for the useful middle: enough room for the day, with enough organisation that the room does not become a heap. For most of us the everyday kit is a phone, a wallet, a glasses case, keys and tissues, and the flat lay shows exactly those laid out beside the bag.
The point is not to carry as much as possible. It is to carry what you need, with each thing in its place, in a bag that still sits comfortably and looks neat.

Made for ordinary days.
Last, I wanted a bag for the days that make up most of life, not just for product photos. Jeans and a comfortable blouse for coffee with a friend. A linen shirt for a spontaneous trip into town. A light jumper for lunch, or a visit to family.
Harper has a classic, simple look, so it sits happily with all of those. It does not need a special outfit built around it, and it does not look as though it is trying too hard. It is just a good-looking bag that is there when you need it.
It is not made for any particular age. It is for anyone who would like a handbag that looks nice and gets on with the job.
| The usual handbag | Harper | |
|---|---|---|
| Organisation | Keys, phone and glasses all end up in one pile | Several zipped and slip compartments, so each can have its own place |
| Finding things | Lifting everything out at the checkout | Easier to reach the things you use most |
| Material feel | Can feel stiff or plasticky in the hand | Soft, flexible faux leather |
| Carrying | One fixed strap length | Adjustable strap: over the shoulder or across the body |
| Everyday outfits | Can need a particular outfit | Classic styling for jeans, a linen shirt or a light jumper |
| Daily routine | Not always built around errands, cafés and family visits | Chosen for those ordinary days |
Plenty of other handbags are lovely. These are simply the details I check first.

Olivia, the woman behind Daily Aussie.
When I choose something for Daily Aussie, I ask myself one question. Is it beautiful enough that you'll enjoy wearing it, and practical enough that you'll reach for it again tomorrow?
That second part matters more than people think. The things that earn a place in a woman's day are rarely the ones that were fussed over. They are the ones she picks up without thinking, on a Tuesday, because they make the morning easier. I would much rather fill the shop with those than with things that look lovely once and live at the back of the wardrobe.
Harper is here because it passed that test for me. I selected it for the shop. I did not design it, and I would not want you to think otherwise. At $64.95, it is a handbag you can choose with your head as well as your heart.

A handbag should make an ordinary day easier. That is the whole idea behind this letter. Looking for your keys. Moving a slipping strap back onto your shoulder. Waiting at the checkout while you search for your wallet. None of them is a big enough reason to replace a handbag, but repeated week after week, they wear you down a little.
I would love you to have a bag that simply gets on with it. One that sits where you put it, opens when you need it, and lets you think about the rest of your day instead of what is at the bottom of your bag.
That is why Harper is in the shop.
